Mozez Singh

Mozez Singh’s first design collection is Mughal Pop.  The collection finds its inspiration 

from Mughal art/architecture/designs/motifs. Mozez explores the tradition and heritage of India by giving it a modern, contemporary and vant-garde twist. The utilitarian furniture pieces are made in various delightful colors of acrylic and jeweled with fabulous semi precious stones. This evokes a style more like pop art, but at the same time, the gems add a richness and luster that transports each piece to the royal era of the Mughals. Mughal Pop is a luxe collection of furniture, home accessories and objet d'art.

Kirath Ghundoo

Kirath Ghundoo is a surface designer based out of Northern England. She launched her first wallpaper collection, 'Mix n Match 11' at 100% Design, a design conference, last september. Kirath graduated from Leeds College of Art in 2006 with a 1st Class BA (Hons) in surface pattern and textile design. In January 2011 she went on to graduate from Huddersfield University with an MA in Textiles, scoring a distinction.

Kirath primarily works within a digital format.The wallpaper is a juxtaposition of mercurial pastel hued geometric prints that can be mixed and matched, making it eclectic in styling. The rolls are designed to be applied in a 'drop, cut, paste' technique that make it more sustainable , while limiting wastage. An element of surprise is added in how they can be combined, making it schizo fabulous.

Kirath also designs fashion fabrics, iPhone sleeves , magazines and lampshades to name a few. Her collections are represented worldwide through a number of stockists in Paris, Germany and New Zealand.

Amrit Kumar and Mriga Kapadiya were friends but more appropriately sisters.

They spent more time with each other through fun projects they created and produced together. From their first homemade fashion shoots, to shows, pop up sales and styling their artist friends, these two little Indian women who grew up in Toronto, realized their union for similar aesthetics and all things old. Falling in love with each others shawls after realizing they were both wearing their mothers’ pieces, they knew there was something more to this brewing sisterhood. Amrit’s reworked vintage pieces were respected in Toronto and fueled her to keep creating pretty new designs from old gems. Mriga’s love for accessories patterns and vintage kept her style fresh and sparked her wide eyes. Both ladies have created based on what they know and learned through doing and not on what they’ve formally been taught.They shifted to Bombay, 2 years ago where they gave birth to NorBlack NorWhite. NorBlack NorWhite is a journey to explore India and its history through textiles, art and adventures. While learning about thèse art trades, regions and people we are excited to create designs and also share the knowledge of ancient practices. This project falls into a grey space of Part anthropology, part art, part fashion.

Each collection will be exploring selected regions that we want to discover further. SpringSummer2011 is created based on the Kutch region of Gujarat. "We focused on bandhani (tie-dye practices) as the heart of this season"

Free Spirit

Suhana Medappa is a textile designer who works out of Bangalore. Using a combination of fabric and prints is her specialty. Having graduated from the Srishti school of Art, Design and Technology she realized that experimental screen print was her forte. After a stint with Satya Paul  as a textile designer in Gurgaon she moved back to Bangalore to start her own exploration with screen printing and thus began the journey towards Free Spirit. Free Spirit is the brand of printed clothing and home furnishing designed and printed by The PRINT Journal a company set up by Suhana in 2010.

Kanika Bahl : Anek Designs

Kanika Bahl is a textile designer from NID, Ahmedabad. Kanika recently started 'Anek Designs' from her new home in  Pune.  At Anek you will find  handcrafted home decor accessories and fabric nick knacks designed and crafted by Kanika. These products, though Indian in their essence will sit beautifully in any contemporary home to add that little warmth and colour!

Namrata Narula

Namrata Narula is a Textile Designer from Srishti School of Art, Design and Technology, Bangalore. For her final project, she worked with worn out clothes and waste fabric which she collected from people around her. "It was an indepedent project and my inspiration for it came from the age old of habit of recycling, preserving and jugaad especially amongst Indians. "Her collection is called New Improved . Deepa Panchamia

Textile Artist, Deepa Panchamia creates sculptures , installations & wearable art that explore the intertwining concepts of scale and space, structure and surface. Working from her London-based studio, Panchamias philosophy towards design is to challenge the conventional perspectives of textiles. Consisting of pleated waves and pocketed constructions, her fabric has enhanced structural properties allowing it to be moulded, manipulated and transformed essentially moving textiles away from its traditional two-dimensional form.All pieces are handmade and entirely one-off, offering clients a unique installation that is designed specifically to suit their space, budget and aesthetic preferences.

Rajboori

Love the unlikely modern lines from Rajboori's home linen collection designed by Mitun Chakrabarti & industrial designer Stephen Burks . Kye

LOVE these hand painted , hand embroidered , hand made cushions from Kalyani Ganapathy's Kye. I've always had a soft corner for paper boats on rainy days. They are limited edition pieces , so grab them quick from People Tree, Delhi.

Ekta Kaul

Ekta Kaul grew up in India and trained as a Fashion Designer at NID , Ahmadabad. She moved to the UK on a Textile Design scholarship offered by the British Council. She refers to her collection as a small universe of luxurious textiles. Kaul achieves the textural , tactile quality in her textiles using an array of surface design techniques like needle punching and printing. The collection uses a hand writing like stitching technique , creating lines that look like script.

Kara Weaves

Kara is a creative venture started by a group of women who felt the need to give the Kerala handloom industry a much-needed impetus. They work with independent teams of weavers across the state and small sets of rural tailors to create handmade home furnishings of the highest finish and quality.
The aesthetic of the textiles is a coming together of the local & contemporary to bring you luxurious , gossamer thin ecru cotton with ornamental threads woven into it used for their curtains and pillow covers. They also retail beautiful , super absorbent finely woven cotton towel material called thorthu. Check their website for more.

Embellisher

Found this little gem on artnlight's blog. 'Embellisher' is a textile designer whose blog is full of these interesting fabric swatches that she (true to her name) embellishes with different stitches & embroidery . Sometimes they tell a story but most times they just look pretty. Visit her at A Million little Stitches.

Alpa Mistry

Who likes things with colourful stripes? I know I do and I adore these knick-knacks from Alpa Mistry's textile based collection. Alpa Mistry, a woven textile designer based in London, produces exclusive accessories for fashion and bold interior artworks. Her work is defined by an imaginative, distinctive use of colour, balance and proportion of line.

Each piece is individually designed and hand-woven on a 24 shaft George Wood dobby loom. The colours are translated into hand-dyed silks and then finely woven in sateen and plain weaves, creating textile pieces with contrasts of sheer and solid fields of colour. Simple and serene to fun and quirky. Check out the wares at her website .

Play Clan

Stumbling onto the Play Clan website was quite possibly the most serendipitous event of the month for me. Play Clan is a motley group of designers and artists ranging from ages 18-36 who've come together to think up a great, fun brand that retails it's very own products. Right from t shirts to customized Converses to Urban art and decor. If you live in New Delhi , I see absolutely no reason for you not to visit their store and buy some of their very hip wares. Their products are thematic , so stick around for the loveless range which is a playful jab at all things 'love' . I personally covet the insanely colourful pillow above and their very cool journals.
