Nayanaa Kanodia

Mumbai based artist Nayanaa Kanodia has a style that is constantly refreshing and relevant without being contrived. In her latest works , she playfully pokes fun at the trappings of pop culture, the Elitist society that tries to keep up and the semantics of it all. Her works , heavily laden with references to the Modern, contemporary and renaissance masters of the world are both in satire and reverence. If not for anything , her colourful navigation of the common man through the sometimes perplexing world of art is entertaining, vivd and detailed. It's almost like a game of spot-the-master. See if you can.

Check out Art Alive Gallery to view more of her works.

Pardon my Hindi

Pardon my Hindi is a retail design outfit based out of New York. The talented Chirag Bhakta owns, designs & screen prints these very Bollywood savvy illustrations. It's nice to see T-shirts & bags with a unique Desi flavour that don't use cliches like , ' Kiss me I'm GUJJU' and the like. These T-shirts are definitely channeling some old world Bollywood. I love the bright yellow tee with the taxi on it.

You can also buy prints. I personally like the 'henna cross'.

Some fun , comical stationary.

They also have some freebies on their site. An e-zine called Whats the Samachar & some nice wallpaper.

About

MASALA CHAI is a creative collective that features South Asian Art & Design from around the world.

Pavitra Mohan 29, hails from Chennai, India . She has a curatorial background with a higher diploma in Arts Management from La Salle College of Fine Arts , Singapore. After spending 4 years studying and working with an artist management firm in Singapore,Pavitra returned to India and explored a handful of options , from working for a non-profit organisation to freelance writing and a short stint with an art gallery. Her passion lies with discovering offbeat talent in the Arts & Design field and thats how MASALA CHAI was born.Pavitra has her finger on the nerve of the country’s culturescape. The website explores a colourful cache of artistic talent that is South Asian.

The idea was to scour the web for sub-continental art that was innovative and broke the 'brown' mold. In 2007 November, the website/ blog was started with a collection of bookmarks and today MASALA CHAI showcases over 350 artists and designers.
